Alloy 718

Alloy 718 / UNS N07718 / 2.4668

Alloy 718, also known under the trademark Inconel 718, is an age-hardenable alloy that is highly corrosion resistant. Alloy 718 resists corrosion in organic acids, alkalies and salts, and seawater; it is resistant to high-temperature oxidation, carburization, and nitridation. Alloy 718 was specifically developed to resist deformation at elevated temperatures and exhibits high strength at temperatures up to 700 °C (1300 °F). As a result, alloy 718 can be considered a corrosion resistant alloy, a heat resistant alloy, and/or a high-performance superalloy.

Alloy 718 was developed during the 1950s. The alloy was patent protected and marketed under the trademark Inconel 718. The patent protection has long ago expired and today all producers can manufacture alloy 718. The trademark inconel 718, however, is still a copyright trademark belonging to the producer Special Metal Corporation.
