In 2025, Sverdrup Steel used lower-carbon material sourcing and circular steel solutions to avoid an estimated 41,000 tonnes of CO2 reaching the atmosphere from our product chains.

By promoting recycled and low-carbon alloy in the supply chain, Sverdrup has significantly suppressed the factor of CO2 equivalent emissions per ton of product delivered. For 2025, the estimated difference between our product and a fully virgin delivery – yields the following footprint reductions:
In 2025, Sverdrup Steel used lower-carbon material sourcing and circular steel solutions to avoid an estimated 41,000 tonnes of CO2 reaching the atmosphere from our product chains. Or the equivalent to 9,600 petrol cars, if we use the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s scientific assessment of global warming potential from different sources.
In greenhouse gas methodology (the GHG Protocol), Sverdrup delivered a Scope 3 result of 27,000 tonnes CO2e – or 60% lower than a conventional scenario with only virgin materials. The difference of 41,000 tonnes is diverted to Scope 4 as defined by the GHG Protocol, covering emissions avoided when a product is used as a substitute for other goods or services, fulfilling the same functions but with a lower carbon intensity.
This comes in addition to everything else we do to cut emissions, either by using renewable electricity (scope 2) or delivering our shipments (scope 3) on fully loaded Euro6 trucks taking the shortest route door-to-door.
