Sverdrup’s service centers are just finishing their transition to energy-efficient, emission-free heavy-duty forklifts – forever burying their diesel big brother.

The idea stood long that only diesel oil could energize the fast, precise handling of steel bundles, bars and plates in a busy environment like Sverdrup’s service centers. But the last couple of years, electric forklifts have reached performance parity with diesel. Electric forklifts are no longer “light-duty”—they operate fully in heavy steel handling environments.
“Our Linde E50 model loads up to 5,000 kg, delivering high torque at low speed,” says Anette Herman Nielsen, Service Center Operator at
Hedensted in Denmark.

The energy performance in KJ spent per ton handled is another case for the el-forklift. Less energy lost at heat, and regenerative braking –
much like the electric car at home – as well as quiet operation, no oil changes, exhaust systems and fuel filters – makes for lower maintenance costs and higher uptime predictability. Finally, the lithium-ion battery charging conditions enable operation with acceptable downtime and lower lifecycle emissions.
