Laser Welding of Stainless Steel Profiles

Laser welded stainless steel hollow sections with smooth external surfaces and sharp edges

Laser welding gives us a level of precision, consistency and edge quality that traditional manufacturing methods simply cannot match. Working closely with Montanstahl we offer laser welded stainless steel profiles that combine tight tolerances, clean edges and excellent surface finish with a flexible production setup that suits both small projects and high volume requirements.

Whether you need sharp corner laser fused stainless steel profiles, large structural beams or customised hollow sections, laser welding is often the best way to achieve exact shapes with exceptional repeatability.

What laser welding allows us to create

  • Sharp corner laser fused profiles

  • Angles, channels and tees

  • Hollow Sections in squares and rectangles

  • Structural beams such as HEA, HEB, IPE, W and S

  • Laser fused profiles with small internal and external radii

  • Customised stainless steel sections in complex geometries

Precision in every detail

The process produces monolithic welds up to a depth of 25 millimetres. The welded components are typically joined at exactly 90 degrees, but the method also allows for tighter or wider angles when required. Small shapes starting from 20 x 20 mm can be produced, while the upper range extends to profiles up to 1000 millimetres wide and 2000 millimetres high.

After welding, each bar is straightened and sand blasted. Stainless steel profiles are pickled or passivated to remove any impurities from the manufacturing process. On hollow sections, angles and channels, external welds are removed before sand blasting so that the finished surface appears smooth and uniform.

Flexible production for small or large projects

Laser welding is a highly flexible manufacturing method. It is suitable for customised shapes, prototypes, one bar orders and project volumes exceeding 100 tons. Bars can be supplied in lengths up to 15.000 mm, making it possible to create long, continuous profiles that fit demanding architectural and industrial designs.

This flexibility makes laser welded stainless steel profiles a smart choice for customers who need a precise shape without committing to large minimum order quantities.

Production data

  • Material thickness: 2 - 80 mm

  • Size range: Maximum of 2000 mm x 1000 mm

  • Weight: from 0.5 kg/m to 200 kg/m

  • General tolerances: ±0.5 mm

Consistent quality and full control

Every profile produced at Montanstahl follows a strict quality protocol supported by continuous measuring and inspection through each step of the production. Both the process and the final profiles are approved by recognised external bodies such as TÜV and comply with international standards including EN ISO 13919, EN ISO 15614, EN ISO 15609 and the ASTM A276, A479, A484 and A1069 specifications.

This means you receive stainless steel profiles that meet demanding structural and certification requirements as standard.

Why choose laser welded stainless steel profiles

  • Sharp corners and small radii

  • Excellent surface finish

  • Tight dimensional tolerances

  • Minimal distortion due to low heat input

  • Smooth external surfaces on hollow, angle and channel sections

  • High consistency even in customised shapes
