EN 1.4542 / 17-4 PH
MATERIAL DESCRIPTION FOR ALLOY 1.4542 / 17-4 PH
17-4 PH is a martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel with additions of copper (Cu), niobium (Nb) and tantalum (Ta). The grade combines high strength and hardness values with moderate corrosion resistance. Different heat treatment temperatures can optimize mechanical properties, e.g. yield strength at 1100 – 1300MPa. Our stock material is double aged at 1150F – defined as DH1150. Age hardening is can also be performed at 480°C to 620°C in a one-step process, where the lowest temperature gives the highest strength. To achieve good toughness at low temperatures, precipitation-hardening temperatures below 550°C are not recommended.
Applications
17-4 PH provides an outstanding combination of high strength, good mechanical properties, good corrosion resistance, outstanding wear resistance and good toughness at temperatures up to 310°C. 17-4 PH is used in chemical, petrochemical, paper and general metalworking industries. Only approved by NACE for restricted components and environments.
Heat Treatment
Solution annealing at 1000 to 1050°C, hardened at 480°C (H900) to 621°C (H1150). DH1150: Double aged at 1150F – 620°C.
Weldability
Good, Pre-heating and post-heating practices used for standard hardenable stainless grades are not required.
