History
Sverdrup Steel was established in Stavanger, Norway, in 1992 as Sverdrup Hanssen Spesialstål AS. The company was founded to meet the growing demands from the Norwegian oil and gas service industry for readily available high performance materials. Since founding, the business model has been; to always have the quality material our customers demand, in stock, and supplying it with the high levels of service our customers needs. Over the twenty years that have past since founding, the philosophy has proven to be a success, and it is the main reason for Sverdrup Steel today being one of Europe’s largest stockiest of high performance materials in round bars and plates.
Name change
On the twenty-year anniversary of its founding, the company changed it’s name from Sverdrup Hanssen Spesialstål to Sverdrup Steel. Effective from the 1st of February, the new name reflects a new brand identity that increases the emphasis on the international markets. This step is a natural progression of our business and entails an increase in our efforts towards the markets outside of Norway. The opening of a UK branch is part of this new strategy. Our ambition is to get an even stronger foothold in these markets by pursuing and enhancing the same business model that we have always had: Offering our customers a large stock selection, coupled with short delivery times and high levels of service
Norway

United Kingdom
August 2012 Sverdrup Steel UK opened for business. A new 2000 square meter warehouse located in Sheffield is a part of the company’s new and more international business profile. Being situated in the heart of the modern steel industry’s birthplace, gives access to cost efficient services like heat treatment and boring, and access to low cost international transport routes. These advantages, plus the increased stock selection, will benefit all of our customers, both Norwegian and international.
